Fall 2021
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. (1 Timothy 1:15-16)
Paul is speaking of his own sinful state before our perfect God. However, he is not alone. We, like Paul, are all guilty of sin and worthy of death. We would all be sent to spend eternity in hell if it were not for the love and mercy shown to us by Jesus Christ when He died for our sins. Praise God for the saving message of the Gospel without which we would face eternal separation and suffering apart from God.
Furlough Travels
We are in the midst of our furlough schedule, and the Lord has allowed us to share in many of our supporting churches over the past three months. Travel has gone well, and we are thankful for God’s protection and reliable transportation. It is wonderful to see familiar faces of supporters and members of supporting churches who have been with us on our team since we were on deputation. Furlough travel can be a challenge at times and requires a lot of energy, but we cherish these interactions and how the Lord uses us to encourage those considering missions or full-time ministry.
Family News
Our family has had some exciting events over the past three months. First is that Amber successfully passed her driving test on August 12—just five days before leaving for Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Since then, she has been getting to know her roommate, Kaylee, and she has made several friends among the international students. Also, she is doing very well academically. Pray as she starts her first job working at Pulley Diner on campus.
In other news, Celeste became engaged to Ben Veenstra on August 4! They have been dating since May last year when they met working on the grounds crew at Cedarville. They are planning to be married on May 14, 2022 at our sending church, Tri-County Baptist Church. We are thankful for how the Lord brought them together and for the time we are having with them during this furlough. Since Celeste graduates on May 7 and the wedding is the following weekend, we have moved our return to Romania to the end of May.
Ladies Missionary Meetings
In September and October, Ruth presented our ministry to the northern Ohio OARBC Hebron and Bethany Ladies Missionary groups. She shared a devotional on Psalm 91:2 called “Faith in Our Fortress.” Looking back into the history and design of fortified castles brings a deeper insight into the meaning of God as our Fortress. God has given Ruth a burden for ladies ministry, and she enjoys sharing through these special meetings. If you would like to schedule a time for her to share her presentation, please contact us.
Our God is greater than any of life's struggles and trials!

Perfect Storm of Crises in Romania
Romania had managed to avoid any widespread outbreak of Covid since November of last year. However, over the past two months especially we have seen a steady rise in the number of new Covid cases and with it the number of hospitalizations. The situation has continued to deteriorate to the point that we are now seeing 15,000 new cases daily, and 400-500 people are dying each day. Add to that a political crisis that has gone on for nearly two months, plus surging natural gas prices heading into winter, and the Romanian people are reeling. Please pray for wisdom and cooperation among those responsible for crafting solutions to these problems and for Romanians to turn their hearts and lives toward God as never before.
