September/October 2012

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)

Dear Praying Friends and Ministry Partners,

Our words matter, right? What we say can either do harm or do good. More importantly our words reveal what is going on inside of us. If we are unable to speak kindly, then we have sin in our hearts. This month’s messages from the book of James have focused on why we need to watch our words so that they will be acceptable and pleasing in the sight of the Lord.

Ministry News

Celebrating 3 years in Romania! On September 9 we celebrated three years in Romania! It was wonderful for it to fall on a Sunday when we could worship together and minister in Luncsoara. Oh how much has changed in three years! Most of all we are thankful for the Lord’s work to prepare us for the roles we are filling right now.

We finished memorizing Titus 2:11-15, and we have begun working on Romans 5:1-5. Ruth has been teaching the children about Esther and how God used her to save the Jewish people. We are continuing to see faithful attendance by our members and a core group of non-members.

During October both of us had the opportunity to travel outside of Romania for several days. Dave spent three days in Bamberg, Germany with several BMM missionaries from throughout Europe, learning about BMM’s crisis management process as well as how to facilitate crisis management planning for our respective fields. Our team will be formulating our crisis plan during our annual team meeting next spring.

Ruth spent three days at a ladies conference in Tallin, Estonia that was held by Women of the Harvest. It was a wonderful time of refreshment and worship with other missionaries who minister throughout Eastern Europe. Ruth has a lot on her plate now with homeschooling and teaching the children in Luncsoara twice a week. She loves it, but the conference gave her some time away and was well worth the effort to be there.

Kid's Corner

Amber during schoolPreviously Celeste shared what she likes about living in Romania. This month a supporting church asked the girls what they thought it means to be a missionary. Amber wrote, "I learn every day that being a missionary can be hard but it’s worth it. Seeing the faces of the kids at Luncsoara when we pull in is so nice. I miss being in America a lot, but I like it here, and I have friends. The services are great, and I think that mom does a very good job in kids class. One girl there is called Roberta. She is four years old, and not always paying attention. I guess that’s all. And I can’t wait to come back to your church. Love, Amber"

Thank you for remembering our family in prayer each month.

Property Update

We are still working on purchasing the property we mentioned in our last letter. A local attorney reviewed the owner’s documents, and she discovered that the two previous sales, inlcuding the most recent one, were not recorded properly. So we are planning a meeting with all the parties for Nov. 8. Please pray for wisdom and continued patience on the part of our church family. If you feel led to give toward the property and/or for future construction expenses, please send your gift to Baptist Mid-Missions. Specify Romania Luncsoara Church (Project #804903).

Cards and Written Correspondence

We are thankful for those who send us cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. We would ask that you send any cards or written correspondence directly to us, either at our Romanian address or our US mailing address (see below). This will save the home office from needing to forward them to us. Letters can be sent from the US to Romania for about $1, and we receive them in about a week. All monetary gifts still need to be sent to the home office.

Praises

  • Faithful attendance by several families and their children.
  • Recent rain and mild temperatures have allowed the members to continue to find work or collect mushrooms.

Prayer Requests

  • For the purchase of the property in Luncsoara, and our meeting on Nov. 8. Pray that the paperwork problem will be finalized soon if this is the property God wants us to buy.
  • Parliamentary elections Dec. 9, which will determine the political and economic course for the next 4 years.
