March/April 2008

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. (Jer. 9:24)

Dear Praying Friends and Ministry Partners,

The prophet Jeremiah tells us how man’s priorities differ from God’s priorities. In Jeremiah 9:23 we see how man “glories” or takes pride in three things in particular, his wisdom, his strength, and his riches. But what does God consider to be far superior to these things? The answer is found in verse 24. God delights in lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness. Can the same be said of us?

Deputation Update
On March 17 Ruth had her wisdom teeth removed. This was scheduled since our last prayer letter. The procedure went well, but after a few days a sharp piece of her jawbone cut through the gum and began rubbing on her tongue. The doctor removed some of the bone and sutured it closed. It was a very painful. A week later the doctor said that the area was healing and that it would take some more time; however, the tissue tore open and exposed the bone again. She went back a third time. This time the doctor discovered it was just dead bone, and he removed it. Praise God for His goodness!

We began last month at the missions conference at Suburban Baptist in Indianapolis. God protected us on the way as the roads were slick from an ice storm. Pastor and Mrs. Egbert made our stay very pleasant. The students from Indiana Baptist College were very interested in Romania.

On March 9, we reluctantly cancelled our meeting at Calvary Baptist in Wabash, Indiana due to the blizzard that hit most of Ohio and much of Indiana. But by Sunday evening the roads were much better, and we visited Friendship Baptist in Cincinnati where we had presented our ministry last March.

Our calendar was open on March 16, so we visited Bethel Baptist Temple in Cincinnati. Bethel was one of the very first churches to give toward our ministry. We hope to go back and present our ministry later this year.

On Easter Sunday, Ruth was still recovering from her surgery, and Celeste was sick, so Amber and I traveled to First Baptist of Gallipolis for a meeting that evening. This was the first time we had not traveled as a family. God has been so good to keep us all healthy over the past 18 months. We enjoyed getting to know Pastor and Mrs. Pollard as well as the Burlesons who treated us to dessert after church.

On March 30 we all traveled to Pennsylvania. We stayed in Indiana, PA on Saturday night and spent the morning with the dear people at Cookport Baptist Church. The church has a long history going back to 1878. Pastor Lockhart grew up in the church and has pastored there for the last 15 years. We enjoyed a beautiful drive from Commodore, PA to Galeton, PA for the evening service at First Baptist of Galeton. Once again the fellowship was sweet, and many were interested in learning more about Romania.

On our way back to Ohio from PA we spent a day with our teammates, Travis and Becky Gravley who we had not seen since July. Our girls loved playing with Samuel and little Kara. We are so thankful for the godly families the Lord has raised up to go to Romania. It was wonderful to share and encourage each other even though the time was short.

We returned to Amish country on April 6 and enjoyed seeing our friends from college, the Seboes. The dear people of Fellowship Baptist in Wadsworth made us feel especially welcome for the morning and afternoon services. We also had a special time at Millersburg Baptist that evening. While there we met the Wilson family who are preparing to go to Bosnia with ABWE. They became familiar with needs of the Gypsies in Bosnia during their survey trip last year.

We are thankful for your faithfulness to the Lord.

Dave, Ruth, Celeste, and Amber

Support Level Status

We are praising the Lord for how He continues to provide new support. First Baptist Church of Glen Este is the most recent church that has joined us. That brings our support level to 48%. We also know of at least two more churches who will be considering us in the very near future. One more supporter should put us over 50%.

Praises

  • Ruth’s mouth is doing much better.
  • Our support is nearing the 50% mark.

Prayer Requests

  • For the Rase family and Temple Baptist, Portsmouth OH
  • Three more churches that are considering us
  • More meetings to be scheduled in August and September
  • Reach 60% support by Sept. to attend Launch Seminar
