January 2008

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

Dear Praying Friends and Ministry Partners,

Occasionally we are asked why it is necessary to send missionaries overseas when there is such a great need in the U.S. While we would be quick to agree with the second half of that statement, there is clearly a much greater need in other parts of the world. Most Americans live in relative proximity to at least one Bible-believing church. But in the rest of the world that simply is not the case. That is partly why we believe God has called us to minister in Romania.

2007 Highlights
Last year was a tremendous year of change and blessings for our family. It is evident that God was with us each day.

January: Dave transitioned from full-time to part-time status, allowing him to spend more time on deputation.
February: We saw our support level reach 18% with the help of our sending church and several individuals.
March: Our first meetings of 2007 took place. We shared our ministry with 10 churches throughout the month.
April: Amber had successful umbilical hernia surgery. We ministered in two churches, and our support reached 20%.
May: We participated in two more meetings, and our ministry web site, www.kimmelfamily.com, went live.
June: Ruth directed her sixth consecutive and final VBS at Tri-County. Addyston Baptist became our second supporting church, bringing us to 22%.
July: Amber accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. We thoroughly enjoyed our first BMM annual conference.
August: Dave ended his part-time job as a technical writer. Following the missions conference at Woodland Baptist Church, they took us and five other families on for support.
September: We shared in two more missions conferences, and our support rose to 24%. We also spent a week of vacation in western Massachusetts and Vermont.
October: We found a new home for our dog, Cody. The driver’s door of our van was badly damaged. No one was hurt, and God kept it going until we could get it repaired.
November: We served in the mission conference at Calvary Baptist in Ocala, FL and a meeting at Heritage Baptist in Lakeland, FL. We also visited Ruth’s cousins living nearby.
December: We were blessed to see a steady rise in our support during the final three months of 2007 to 38%. We also enjoyed time with both families during the holidays.

Goals for 2008
Our primary goal for 2008 is to remain faithful to God’s call in our lives and to be an effective witness for Him not only in the churches we visit, but also to the people all around us who do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

We want to continue to develop friendships with the people we meet in the churches we visit. We don’t want this to be simply a one-time appearance and it ends there. We want to be available to encourage and challenge those individuals who God allows us to fellowship with each week.

We also desire to complete deputation this year or early next year. We know that all things are possible with God and that He will continue to provide the funds we need in His time. Our next milestone is to reach 60% so we can attend Launch Seminar at Baptist Mid-Missions in September.

Thank you for your important role in our ministry in 2007!

Dave, Ruth, Celeste, and Amber

Deputation Update

Earlier this month we participated in the annual mission conference at Cedarville University. One of the students who came by our display during the week also went forward on the final night of the conference, and Dave prayed with him.

Since our last letter, three additional churches will be supporting us: Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth, OH, Shoaff Park Baptist Church in Ft. Wayne, IN, and First Baptist Church in Kenton, OH. This brings our support level to nearly 42%. We know of at least one other church that will be voting on new missionaries this month.

Upcoming Meetings

1/27 Fellowship Baptist Church, Portland, IN
2/9-2/12 First Baptist Church of Glen Este, Glen Este, OH
2/17 Calvary Baptist Church, Massillon, OH
2/24 Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Cleveland, OH
3/2 Walnut Creek Baptist Church, Erie, PA

Praises

  • 5 new supporters and several generous year-end gifts
  • We shared our ministry in 15 churches, and 12 more meetings were scheduled since our November letter.

Prayer Requests

  • Churches that will be voting in the near future
  • For Doug (Cedarville student) as he seeks the Lord’s will
  • To reach 60% support by Sept. to attend Launch Seminar
